The following is a letter of proposal written by Aruna Dake to Esther Ann Hayes.

"Ever respected friend and sister; (Allow me to call you by this title at present). Tolcott received the letter last week that you and Louisea wrote dated Nov. 6th. But I didn't, see it till last Sunday. We were very happy to hear that you were all well. I am very well except a bad cold. Tolcottt has had the ague and fever, but he is now better so that he can work some. The rest of our folks are well. The part of the letter that you wrote so much attracted me, that I could not help answering it. Though I hardly know what to write. You know perhaps that I am very plain hearted, and have a decisive mind, therefore, you may expect that I shall be very plain in answer to this. I shall expect the same of you. You were quite mistaken of our not writing to you. I have made mention of you in several letters. You said you didn't know about trusting to a married man to see you safe to the west, of course it would be useless then for me to come down in the spring to see my charmer, except you consent to come with a married man. Here you have it, course as it may appear; it is my heart and hand, which shall be happy when signed by Esther A. Hayes. To remember thee, it an easy look. Though strangers as we are, by constant thinking I've known thee love, thine image is everywhere.

Tell to me plainly, Esther A. Hayes, if you will, or will not consent to a union with me, early next spring, and to settle in the Michigan, if you have that affection for me, that I have for you, I am sure there can nothing hinder us from being companions for life. I have no particular charm, I have neither wealth nor beauty, but I consider myself capable of living as long as I can see everybody live. This is asking great alms to be sure of one that I never saw but once, but if it is to many to bestow upon me then I will not ask again. I shall expect a full and decisive answer in your very next letter for I do not conceive it necessary for one to spend all his days in writting letters on courting.
Yours with much respect Aruna H. B. Dake"

Jack was born on December 11, 1932, to parents George J. H. and Mary Ellen (Alquist) Dake at Chicago, IL. He married Carolyn Combs. Jack spent about 21 years in the Regular Air Force.

He was assigned to the Dental Technicians Training School at Great Lakes Naval Station, Chicago. Jack and Dean (his brother) were both transferred to Korea in early 1953 and while there, were able to spend some time together. Dean visited Jack at his base three times because he had more opportunity to fly and Jack visited Dean at his base on one occasion. Jack was on an Air Force Base and Dean was detached to the 3rd Marine Air Wing, to provide communications to the Marines.

Both brothers wound up at FuChu AB in Japan for processing back stateside, at the same time. Jack was selected to fly back and Dean tried to get on his flight. Officials wouldn't allow that however they did offer Jack the opportunity to change and come back on the same ship as Dean. That is what Jack elected to do and both came back together. We didn't get to spend much time together because, Dean wound up singing in a quartet and spent most of his time rehersing or performing for different functions.

Jack later did a tour in Alaska, and another in Taiwan. He was stationed at Oxnard California, Kirtland AFB Albuquerque NM and Davis Monthan AFB Tucson AZ. where he retired. He then went to work for the Post Office and ultimately retired from there. He suffered with Diabetes and received an injury to one of his feet which led to gangrene that contributed greatly to his early demise. He passed away in the VA Hospital, Tucson AZ, on January 31, 1991.
